Network Services

Who we are

Curtin Information Technology Services, Network Telecommunication and Storage Infrastructure team is responsible for maintaining all the Curtin's communication and Storage infrastructure.

What we are

The Curtin network is collection of more than 200 subnetworks, each with a variety of servers and computer workstations. There are more than 20,000 network connection points spread across all major buildings on the main Bentley campus and those at the University's metropolitan and regional centres.

The network at Curtin is built on Gigabit fibre optic connections between buildings and core network, unshielded twisted pair copper cabling within each building. All network connections across campus are provided by managed switch infrastructure with either 100 Megabit or 1 Gigabit interfaces and the 5 main regions of the University LAN are interconnected by 10 Gigabit/s ethernet over fibre. These newer, faster networking technologies make possible the distributed delivery of large electronic data such as desktop multimedia, print-quality colour images, CD quality sound and full-motion colour video material. These technologies are already being utilised by the campus iLecture system.
